So the first thing we had to do is strip all the fiberglass off the hull. Normally this could be a pain staking process, but since this canoe was weathered, and leaked badly, the water damage and the sun had done most of our work for us. It peeled off in about 2 hours and cleanup was a mess. But with all that done, we can get a good look at the planking, and begin initial assessments of the damage.
The next step for evaluation is to remove the outer gunwale and the decks. Based on what we have seen so far there are only a few holes in the planking, and the 4 can't ribs in the bow and stern will need replacing. Only the tips are rotted, but since they don't go under the stem, its an easy fix. It also looks like we have one broken outer gunwale, and both decks are cracked. Lets pull them all off and see what we get!
